Team Building
Team Building is very important task for leaders and managers. Especially in organisational changes in the company, team building will play a role as “future engineering”. Every thing which will occure in the furture, would be based on todays preferences. This exciting site of the task. On the other hand today’s small details may end up with big crises in the future. So, while making up the team, some guiding principles can be helpful.
- Experience and knowledge is a must anyway
- Team performance will be depended on behavioral patterns of members
- It takes time to act as a team, there are some stages to achieve performance targets
- Situational leadership skills are neccessary
- Trust is key factor for acting
Mak-Up Stage
You need the “best and brightest” on your team, but even those people must work well together for the project to succeed. When selecting team members, give preference to individuals who are:
- Commitment to the common purpose and goals

Good team players:

-
Critical issue is froming a real team which is able to create own norms
Development Stage
The model shows that as a team develops, relationships between members becomes more stable and the team increases its ability to perform. The amount of time that a team spends in any one stage and the number of times they cycle back through the stages will vary depending on the make-up of the team, the environment and the leadership. Based on what stage of development the team is in, the leader will change their leadership approach to best meet the needs of the team.
Forming:
In the Forming stage, team members are getting to know one another, and understanding the team’s purpose and their roles.
Storming:
In the Storming stage, politeness begins to wear off and dissension occurs over basic mission and operating procedures.
Norming:
When team members recognize their differences and have dealt with them, they move to Norming, the stage when they ask, “How are we going to accomplish our work?”
Performing:
This is the final stage of team development. A high performing team is exactly that, a highly effective, problem-solving unit.
Adjourning:
As a project comes to an end or a team member leaves, the team moves into the Adjourning stage. This is not a developmental stage. This can be the closure state or sustainability stage. We prefer to call this stage sustainabiliity stage. In this stage, continous improvement dynamics works. Team leader should estabblish a proper learning and development in team.
About Sustainability
As a matter of fact, each organization has a life cycle like human. Main Steps are birth, growing, stability, recession and deadlock. Team leaders should be aware of that. When the team comes to recession stage, it is neccessary to establish a new vision and to create enthusiasm for ultimate targets.
